Civil, resources and infrastructure

Civil construction involves the construction of infrastructure including water pipelines, mining shafts, roads, parks and renewable energy structures such as wind farms.

This program will help you develop the skills to gain entry level work on projects such as the proposed Whyalla hydrogen power facility, the Northern Water project and BHP mining sites. It also provides an opportunity to kickstart a career in mining, or pursue a civil construction pathway with local government.

We have partnered with global mining giant BHP to develop training for careers in some of South Australia’s fastest growing industries - mining and construction.

What you’ll achieve

  • Develop some hands-on technical skills
  • Gain an understanding of the career opportunities and pathways in the industry, and develop your own career action plan
  • Understand and develop employability skills
  • Gain experience with employers in the industry
  • Complete introductory training courses including White Card and First Aid
  • Complete the SACE subjects: Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) and Workplace Practices.

  • Achieve competency in industry recognised technical skills
  • Identify and prepare for your preferred career pathway
  • Further develop employability skills in preparation for the workplace
  • Gain further experience with employers in the industry
  • Complete vocational education and training short courses in civil construction and resources and infrastructure
  • Complete the SACE subjects: Activating Identities and Futures (AIF) and Workplace Practices
  • Be ready to transition into an apprenticeship in year 12.

  • Further develop your technical skills and knowledge or
  • Commence the first year of your apprenticeship in the workplace
  • Complete your SACE in collaboration with your home school.

Having completed year 1 of an apprenticeship while at the technical college, you can transition straight into the second year of your apprenticeship.
